Among the most popular cotton sarees worn by women of Bengal, are the ever-pleasing Tant sarees. Soft, light and very comfortable to drape, these sarees are characterized by a broad border, a decorative pallav and are woven with a variety of floral motifs. To keep up with contemporary tastes, in tant sarees we have tried to feature mix-n-match style on the fabric with Aari work, an embroidery known for its delicate thread-work where Zari, Cotton, Silk threads are used and block print. We have further embellished the cloth with sequins, mirrors etc in between the embroidered patterns to give it a gorgeous look. The Intrinsic embroidery is created with the help of a pen like needle. The combination of red on white is considered very auspicious considering the traditions of Bengal. White stands for purity while red symbolizes her fertility. A white or off-white saree with a red border and pallav is often the attire of choice of a married woman for devotional events, religious ceremonies or commemorative functions. These sarees are often accessorized with white bangles made of conch shells (called “shakha”) and red coral bangles (called “pola”), along with red sindoor on the forehead, all symbols of her marital status.
